Bikini Body

It’s June, so it can’t be a huge surprise that magazines are bombarding us with headlines such as “Bikini Body in Ten Days!” “Bikini Body Countdown” and more of these “get-a-perfect-body-now” type headlines.
We all want to look good in a swimsuit, and the sad reality is, most of us feel at least somewhat dissatisfied when we look at ourselves in a full-length mirror.
You know what? Maybe it’s time to redefine what “bikini body” means to us. When we think about “beach readiness,” most of us think about a lean, tanned body, washboard abs, not a single ounce of unwanted fat, not to mention the dreaded cellulite!
But how realistic is that? And is the average female body even meant to look like that? We loved Kim Kardashian’s recent declaration that she’s OK with having cellulite. We do hope she means it - and we want every woman to feel this way.
The way we see it, “bikini body” should mean eating well, exercising regularly, and having the best body for YOU. Never trying to emulate some unattainable female ideal that only a fraction of women can obtain. Then, once you’ve done your part to treat your body with respect, feed it well and make sure it moves, learn to love it just the way it is.
Don’t get us wrong - we’re not advocating being overweight or neglecting your health. But let’s face it, almost all grown women have SOME cellulite and tend to have pockets of fat SOMEWHERE - usually in the tummy, thighs, and derriere. It’s how our bodies were designed. Even lean, fit women often have “imperfect” bodies in today’s standards, and that’s exactly why we think it’s time to redefine that word - “imperfect.” Heck, maybe it’s time to let go altogether of the quest for “perfect” when it comes to our bodies!
How about saying this to yourself instead of the “OMG I’m so FAT” that usually runs through your mind: “I am beautiful. My imperfections are beautiful. My body is fit and healthy and strong. I love myself, just the way I am.”
